Our Story

57% of accidents occur because drivers fail to look properly. Hornit was founded by former lawyer and Ironman triathlete Tom de Pelet to stop this from happening.

Tom commuted by bike and trained in and around London for seven years. It was immediately apparent that cycling was so much safer and less stressful when the cyclist is in control of their own safety.

TOM THE LAWYER

Pre-Hornit, Tom was a lawyer. His incident-filled London cycle commute combined with an enterprising spirit provided the spark for the Hornit.

TOM THE MARINE

As a Trainee lawyer, Tom completed the tough military training required to join the Royal Marine Reserves, the elite group of Commandos who juggle full-time work with training.

TOM THE IRONMAN

Tom then went on to fulfil his ambition to become an Ironman, completing the Ironman UK in 2005 (in a time of 11 hours 26 minutes in case you’re interested!).

TOM THE ENTREPRENEUR

Spurred on by the discovery that tens of thousands of cyclists are needlessly injured worldwide every year and the fact that scores of other cyclists who saw the prototypes in action asked him where they could buy one, Tom gave up his law career and created the now patented dB140 cycle horn.

He has since created the award winning Mini Hornit for children. Hornit products are now distributed in over 40 countries worldwide.

Hornit’s mission is to make cycling safer and more fun for people of all ages.
